WebMail Directions

Away from your regular computer but want to stay on top of your E-mail? Use TICAL's WebMail feature to:

  • Access your regular E-mail account
  • Read and reply to messages
  • Delete unwanted messages

To use WebMail, you'll need to enter 3 things in the WebMail log-in:

  1. Your User ID. Typically, this is what comes before the @ sign in your E-mail address. For example, in the E-mail address jsmith@charter.net, the User ID is jsmith.
  2. Your E-mail account password
  3. The name of your mail server. Often, this is simply what comes after the @ sign, with the word "mail" and a dot inserted. So using the same example, jsmith's mail server name would be entered as: mail.charter.net
However, this is not universal. If it doesn't work, you can find your mail server's name in the accounts or preferences section of the E-mail program on your own computer; ask your technical support department; or check your E-mail provider's web site.

Preferences Screen

The first time you log in, you'll see the Preferences screen. It is not necessary to do anything on this screen, but we encourage you to complete the Identity section with your Name and E-mail address. This will ensure that any replies or messages you send will show the correct information to your recipients. When you are satisfied with your Preferences, click [Apply] at the bottom of the screen. The screen should refresh with the same information. Now, simply click [Inbox] at the top of your screen to see if you have new messages.

Important Pointers

  • Delete messages with care. When you delete a message in WebMail, it's gone! Period.
  • There is no "sent messages" feature, so if you want to have a copy of a message you send, include your own E-mail address in the "bcc" field.

What if WebMail won't work?

WebMail may not work for you if your school district has very tight security or you use a proprietary service such as America Online. If you use district E-mail and have difficulties using WebMail, ask your technical support staff for advice. The district may have its own Internet mail portal for your use. AOL users can access their accounts at aol.com.
