Instant Communication at your Fingertips

Jack Jarvis, principal at Hidalgo Elementary School in Fresno Unified shares an efficient and effective way to push out notifications to his staff via Really Simple Syndication (RSS).  This automatic push out of messages allows teachers to receive notifications without ever having to check their email.   Now, informal information can quickly be sent out!

Mini Computers for Every Student in the Classroom

Fort Smith Public Schools successfully implemented a one laptop per child program in 18 classrooms from 2nd grade through high school in late 2008.  Arkansas cadre members Harry Dickens, John Calaway, and Jim Yeager speak to George Lieux, an Arkansas cadre member and technology integration specialist at Forth Smith Public Schools about the program including how it was funded, how the district provided professional development, how teachers  have changed the way they teach, and how the program will be expanded in the future.

Equity and Literacy with Free Electronic Textbooks

California has launched a major open-source electronic textbook (ebook) initiative which implements Governor Schwarzenegger’s vision of providing free textbooks and digital access to a standards-based curriculum.  Rowland Baker had the honor of speaking with the Secretary of Education Dr. Glen Thomas, who helped put this initiative into action for high school math and science courses.  In this interview, Dr.  Thomas provides an overview of the program and where to find more information.
