The Council of the Great City Schools is an organization of the nation's largest urban public school systems which advocates to improve K-12 education in inner-city schools. The council is governed by superintendents and board of education members from 58 cities across the country.

Michael Simkins presented this session on Education 3.0 at the TICAL 2011 conference in Little Rock, AR and again, in a "new and improved" version at ISTE 2011 in Philadelphia. Included was a guided tour through concepts about the future of learning as well as some current examples such as Khan Academy and the School of One. School 2.0

The US Department of Education has created a website to help school districts envision how to support teaching and learning using technology. Also called etoolkit, it includes an interactive map to assist with building a vision. There is also a "bandwidth calculator" to help schools and districts look at bandwidth needs to support various uses of technology.
 

Southern Regional Education Board

Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) helps government and education leaders work cooperatively to advance education and improve the social and economic life of the region. Key focus areas are: collecting, compiling and analyzing comparable data; and conducting broad studies and initiating discussions that help states and institutions form long-range plans, actions and policy proposals. SREB maintains regional databases for K-12 and higher education and publishes about 75 reports annually.

This free, dynamic web portal is an innovative project to promote excellence in middle grades education. It is a treasure chest of resources for middle school teachers and administrators. It contains twelve recommendations to help educators fulfill the vision that all middle grades students can achieve high standards and become lifelong learners. There is easy access to research based content, resources and practices, including video vignettes of best practices for middle level educators.
