Kelly J. Calhoun, Ed.D.

Chief Technology Officer

Santa Clara County Office of Education

Kelly currently serves as the Director of Educational Technology and Information Systems at the Folsom Cordova Unified School District, a district of 18,000 students near Sacramento, California. Her role encompasses responsibility for all instructional and administrative/business operations of the district, and all the challenges that come with those! She additionally serves on the board of the Sacramento Educational Cable Consortium, helping to create the new “BESTNet” high speed Internet project with the other districts in the region.

Kelly came to education as a second career, after many years working in the legal field. Her six years of teaching experience began in San Diego, and included teaching English, drama, computers and more (her principal jokingly referred to her as the “Swiss Army Knife” of the campus). Her expertise with technology eventually lead to her appointment as the district’s technology coordinator. She also served as adjunct faculty at San Diego State University in the Educational Technology department.

Kelly moved home to northern California from San Diego in 1998 to be with family, and joined the team at FCUSD. She now lives in Folsom, a beautiful, rapidly growing city home to Intel’s research and development center, with her husband and two giant Black Labs.

Kelly’s educational background includes graduation from San Diego State University with a degree in Telecommunications and Film (Radio/TV production), then a master’s degree and administrative credentials in Education, focusing especially on educational uses of technology.  She completed her doctorate in Organizational Leadership at the University of La Verne in 2004. Her dissertation focused on the change leadership strategies of superintendents in districts effectively integrating technology systemwide.

Kelly's unique point of view and sense of humor have made her a favorite presenter at a variety of state-wide and national technology conferences.  She contributes to multiple professional organizations in various capacities, including ACSA, CASBO, CETPA.
