Linking PK to K12: The Importance of Early Learning
Hoffman Room, 8:15 – 9:15
Neal Gibson, Director, Arkansas Research Center
Tonya Russell, Director, DHS Division of Child Care and Early Learning Education
Sarah Argue, Project Director, Arkansas Research Center

The Arkansas Research Center has linked K12 data with both Arkansas Better Chance and Head Start programs in the state, as well as data on infants from UAMS. This session will be an introduction to what has been learned to date with these data. We would also like to use this presentation to gather information from district and elementary administrators on what a PK transcript might need to include and what elementary schools would like to provide as feedback to the early learning programs.  Since 85% of a child's social and cognitive skills are developed by age 5, it would serve us well to have a better picture of the students that come to us in Kindergarten.

Our challenge is to teach for depth of understanding, using new tools and fresh approaches to instruction.
